About this Master Plan

Bringing data together from every corner of the district to understand the big picture and what we are hoping to accomplish with this Plan.

What is a Facilities Master Plan?

A Facility Master Plan is a long-range planning document that evaluates existing school facilities and identifies future needs. It provides a roadmap for maintaining, modernizing, and expanding campuses to support educational programs, student enrollment, safety, and operational efficiency over time.

Why Facility Master Planning Matters

School facilities do more than house classrooms, they shape how students learn, how teachers teach, and how communities connect. A Facility Master Plan is the process of stepping back and asking the right long-term questions: What do we have today? What will we need tomorrow? How do we make smart, responsible decisions over time?

This planning effort brings together data, professional expertise, and community input to create a clear, shared understanding of facility needs. It helps districts move beyond reactive fixes and toward intentional, strategic investments that support educational programs, student well-being, safety, and operational efficiency.

Most importantly, a Facility Master Plan creates alignment. It ensures that facility decisions support instructional goals, enrollment trends, and fiscal realities. It does this while providing transparency and accountability to the community. The result is not just a plan, but a framework for making informed choices year after year.

Community engagement is an important part of the Facilities Master Plan process, helping ensure the plan reflects the priorities, needs, and vision of the Compton Unified community. Here are some insights.
